2008 version of 64U November 3, 2008 Earl A. Sandness (California) 43 out of 48 found this review helpful
Check the reviews for the lc42d64u model. The "65u" is the fall 2008 version of it. I had to do a lot of research (hours) to figure this out. Even Sharp's website is still listing the 64u's at this time. Found this at productwiki.com

There have been over 60 5 start ratings on the 64u at amazon.com so I thought you might be interested in a little more feedback before making your purchase. Given the vast price difference, I figure it's just new and no one knows about it so this may be a get it while you can opportunity...
According to the site mentioned, the only difference is the energy star functionality, which can be turned off, according to the previous rater.

I bought that tv 3 weeks ago.Since that time, we are enjoying watching tv and dvd movies as whole family. Black is real black and the colors are vivid. I also connect my tv to my laptop and use as a monitor. Superb result.Great product, great buy.
20% energy saving option is an additional feature which is great.
Very good HDTV at a great price! March 13, 2009 Brian J. Randleman (Milwaukee, WI) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I am very satisfied with this HDTV after about three weeks of use. I relied almost exclusively on the Consumer Reports endorsement in buying this, never even saw it in a store. Bought "used" through Warehouse Deals, but received a new HDTV with the most minor damage to the shipping box - so my deal was even better than most (IMHO).
The set has so many input options (5 HDMI is ridiculous!) and the 1080p resolution is superb. Plugged in HD DVR, DVD and Wii - turned on and voila, picture came up automatically.
There are lots of customization features for input labeling and control.
Picture customization is above average for sets in this price range, and useful. I found the default setting to be dark - after two corrections, wife is happy.
Sound is much better than I expected, it can get loud if needed, but doesn't clip or get too tweety.
Extremely satisfied.
My second Aquos January 26, 2009 T. Streich (Southern California) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have always had pleasant experiences buying from Amazon. I searched the internet and couldn't find a better deal. I own another Sharp Aquos and am very pleased with both. This TV arrived on time and I had it set up and running in about 30 minutes. Very stylish and great picture in HD.
LCD TV Purchace February 16, 2009 Robert C. Freewald (CedarBluff MS) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I am a dedicated Sharp product customer having bought my first Sharp TV in 1965. The Sharp Aqous LC-42D65U is my first try at an all digital TV and it is a super product. I bought it in Decenber 08. It is the Consumer Reports (CR) March 09 Magazine 'Best Buy' in 42 inch LCD TV's and the TV is all they said it to be. Sharp has 5 HDMI inputs including a PC port, more inputs than any others tested by CR, and has a clear 1080p High Def. picture. I also bought a compatable Sharp Blu-Ray BD HP21U DVD from Amazon and it too is excellent. During the set up of both, keep in mind that these products are computers themselves unlike the old Analog monitor only TVs.
I read the 'many' Amazon customer reviews of the super bad shipping problems with TV's using the Eagle CEVA shipper 'White glove Delivery' service that Amazon contracts to. I waited a week, then I received a call from Eagle telling me that my TV will be at my home between 11 and 2 in four days hense. It came in perfect condition at 11:40 AM on the date told to me.
